Social entrepreneurs and social businesses are taking over consumer markets, begging the question, “why not?” Why not give back? Why not tie one’s business model to some social good? FRANK, a designer stationery studio based out of Auckland, was founded in 2012 by husband and wife Jason and Jess Holdaway. Their one-for-one social enterprise business model gives one school notebook to a child in need in New Zealand for every notebook purchased. Giving back is at the core of the FRANK stationery business model.
“Because of what we have been given, we can give back. We live our lives based upon the belief that all our blessings and privileges have been given to us, therefore what we have does not belong to us, but should be given away to others. We give because we can and should, and because we realize the power of generous people and how that has affected our lives.” – Jess Holdaway
To date, FRANK has donated just over 25,000 school books to children in need, each personalized with a Dr. Seuss quote on the back meant to inspire the child “to fulfill their full potential and lead beautiful lives” while chasing after their dreams. An additional 20,000 school books are expected to be donated soon.
In a recent article on the FRANK blog, Jason and Jess noted “living our purpose” as one of a few things they are focusing on this year. “Living in such a way that is good for mankind and for our own hearts!” I’d like to challenge myself, and all of you, to do the same. Imagine the difference we could make if we truly lived life in such a committed way.

“YOU’RE OFF TO GREAT PLACES, TODAY IS YOUR DAY! YOUR MOUNTAIN IS WAITING, SO… GET ON YOUR WAY!”
I’m excited to announce that this is one of (hopefully) many future collaborations as part of a new segment on my blog called “GIVING BACK,” committed to raising awareness and featuring brands that are giving back in one way or another.
